Stealing Beauty was a show, held at the ICA and sponsored by Perrier Jouet, exhibiting the work of 16 British-based architects, fashion, furniture and graphic designers who take inspiration from the city and the everyday world around them. The show included El Ultimo Grito, Tord Boontje, Bump, Michael Marriott, the Light Surgeons, Bloc and the Azumis.
Each designer was allocated a space of equal size delineated by a colour strip laid across the gallery and into the corridor outside. Holes drilled into the gallery wall allowed glimpses into the exhibition from the corridor.
The whole show is engaging and playful, working a kind of magic on implausible materials. The beauty comes from the reinvention of familiar, inexpensive things. Annabel Freyberg, The Independent.
The exhibition toured to Warwick Art Gallery in Coventry.
